Water Damage Restoration of Lincoln Nebraska

Water Damage Restoration

Water damage restoration essentially encompasses all phases of restoring your wet home. Water removal, materials evaluation/removal, decontamination, structure drying and repairs (if needed) are all part of the process. The cost of restoration can be as little as $100, all the way in excess of 6 figures. However, the average water damaged Nebraska basement is probably around $3,500 to restore.

Water damage restoration can be a confusing topic for many Nebraskans. A common question I’ve heard over the years is “Do I need a professional help with my water damage?”. Often times you don’t, but if you’re reading this page, you need some candid advice. When advising my clients, the following help determine if they need to worry about their wet home.

What was the source of water? Clean water (Category 1) comes from your plumbing system and is the most forgiving in terms of urgency and microbial growth. Gray water (Category 2), water from your dishwasher, washing machine or sump pump backup, requires a bit more care because of the higher potential for contaminants and microbial growth. Black water (Category 3) is any water that originates from your sewer system, such as floor drains, toilets and septic systems. Black water contamination often benefits from professional water damage restoration.

How big of an area is impacted? Less than 50 square feet, you might be able to clean and dry things on your own. 50 – 200 square feet, consider calling in to get personalized evaluation of your situation. More than 200 square feet (10’ x 20’), you’re most likely going to need help. A word of caution, some materials such as MDF base trim and moisture barrier carpet pad can be a problem with a very small amount of water.

How long has the area been wet? The longer the area has been wet, the more likely you’ll need professional help cleaning and drying your water damaged home. Less than one day, almost everything can be saved, green light. 1 – 3 days being wet, you’re in the yellow caution but time to make decisions. More than 3 days, red flag! Get a professional damage restoration company to inspect for mold, evaluate bacterial loads and determine if wet materials need to be removed.

What types of materials are wet? Concrete, glue down carpet and solid woods are resilient in terms of water exposure. Drywall, laminate flooring and any type of MDF really should be promptly evaluate for moisture content and salvageability.
